Drury University’s Katia Bon (Charnay Les Macon, France) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. Bon, a freshman for the Panthers, collected six wins last week to pace her club in two wins.

 

In Drury’s 6-3 win over Northern Kentucky, Bon accounted for a win at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. She defeated Stephanie Isaacs at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with Chandra Capozzi to defeat Isaacs and Jillian Sturgeon in doubles play, 8-6.

 

Bon also picked up a win at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles in the Panthers’ 8-1 win over Indianapolis on Saturday. Bon topped UIndy’s Lee Matthews, 6-0, 6-1, and with Capozzi, defeated Alena Perez-Majul and Maggie Ashby, 8-5.

 

In Drury’s 5-2 loss to 17th-ranked Northwood, Bon defeated Ashley Neumann at No. 2 singles, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, and defeated Neumann and Roberta Huetter at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, with Capozzi.

 

On the year, Bon is 13-2 overall in singles play and 12-4 in doubles action.

 

Drury (12-4) is ranked 26th nationally and second in the Midwest Region. The Panthers will host Rockhurst, Saint Joseph’s and Lewis this week.

 

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Emily Roebker, Lewis’ Katie Hargrove and Rockhurst’s Caitlin Buckley.
