Lewis University’s Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. Lapimaa, a freshman for the Flyers, posted a 4-2 record in league action last week and helped the Flyers to their first GLVC team victory since 2003.

In Lewis’ 5-1 win over Saint Joseph’s on Tuesday, Lapimaa recorded a win at No. 1 singles and at No. 1 doubles. He defeated Saint Joseph’s Ishan Gohil, 6-0, 6-0, in singles competition and teamed with Tonis Irdoja in doubles play to defeat the Pumas’ team of Gohil and Brandon Ward, 8-2.

Lapimaa returned on Friday against Rockhurst to post another set of wins, this time over a pair of regionally ranked foes. At No. 1 singles, Lapimaa defeated eighth-ranked Victor Klintscharov, 6-4, 6-2. He and Irdoja also defeated the Hawks’ Zach and Ben Newell at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. The Newells are currently the fourth-ranked doubles team in the region.

In Lewis’ 6-3 loss to 16th-ranked Drury on Saturday, Lapimaa fell at No. 1 singles to Drury’s Alex Kacamakis, 6-3, 6-0 and he and Irdoja fell in doubles action, 8-5.

On the week, Lapimaa was 2-1 in singles competition and 2-1 in doubles competition. He is 20-9 in singles action on the year and he and Irdoja are 19-8 in doubles play.

Lewis (2-15) is currently in eighth-place in the GLVC standings and will look to earn a GLVC tournament berth with matches against Quincy and Missouri-St. Louis this weekend.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Taylor Broda, Missouri-St. Louis’ Andi Dimke and Northern Kentucky’s Ignacio Ortiz.
