University of Indianapolis’ Ben Sondgeroth (Rock Falls, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.

 

Sondgeroth, a senior first baseman for the Greyhounds, belted four home runs over the weekend, helping UIndy split a key divisional series at Saint Joseph’s.

 

On the week, Sondgeroth was 6-for-16 (.375) at the plate with seven RBIs, five runs scored, four home runs and a double. He posted a 1.188 slugging percentage in the four games and split time at three positions, including catcher, first base and designated hitter.

 

In UIndy’s 8-5 loss on Friday, Sondgeroth was 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored.

 

He returned on Saturday to post a 3-for-8 day at the plate. In the opening game of the day, a 6-0 UIndy win, Sondgeroth was 2-for-4 with a home run, double, three RBIs and two runs scored. He capped the series with a solo shot in the Greyhounds’ 6-2 loss on Saturday.

 

This season, Sondgeroth leads the GVC in slugging percentage (.715) and RBIs (46) and is second in the conference in home runs (10). He is hitting .366 with 11 doubles and 36 runs scored.

  

UIndy (29-16) is currently third in the GLVC East Division with an 11-5 divisional record. The Greyhounds will travel to SIU Edwardsville on Thursday and host UW-Parkside this weekend.

 

Other top performers in GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Patrick Brady, Drury’s Dane Hughes, Northern Kentucky’s Kevin Dusold, Quincy’s Brian Thompson, Rockhurst’s Tyler Knust and Southern Indiana’s Chad Werry.
