Lewis University’s Katie Hargrove (O’Fallon, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. Hargrove, a freshman for the Flyers, notched a pair of victories in both singles and doubles action last week.
In Lewis’ 5-4 win over Quincy on Friday, Hargrove recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles over the Lady Hawks’ Michelle Bertelsman. She led the day off with a win at No. 1 doubles with teammate Melanie Sandberg. The duo picked up an 8-5 win over Quincy’s Lauren Henry and Anele Novak.
In action against Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday, Hargrove again collected a pair of victories. She defeated UMSL’s Altanzul Gombo at No. 3 singles and she and Sandberg also won at No. 1 doubles. In the doubles match, the pair defeated the Tritons’ Stephanie Thompson and Pujitha Bandi, 8-6.
Hargrove has won five of her last six singles matches and is now 16-9 overall. In doubles play, she has amassed an overall record of 15-8.
Lewis (10-10) completed the GLVC season with a 4-6 league record and secured the No. 8 seed for the upcoming GLVC Women’s Tennis Championships. The Flyers will face top-seeded Drury on Friday in St. Louis.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Meghan Teunis and Rockhurst’s Kandice Belanger.
