Quincy University’s Jordan Backes (Mount Zion, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Pitcher Week. 

 

Backes, a junior pitcher for the Hawks, collected three wins on the mound last week in four appearances.

 

In his four outings, Backes was 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA. He threw a total of seven and two-thirds innings on the week and struck out four.

 

He threw two innings in Quincy’s 5-4 win in the first game on Saturday, allowing just two hits and striking out two to earn the victory.

 

Backes returned in the nightcap, a 6-5 Quincy win, to throw one and two-third innings and again pick up the victory. He allowed one hit and struck out one.

 

He finished the weekend with a three-inning effort in Quincy come-from-behind win over Southern Indiana in the final game of the four-game series. He allowed three hits, one earned run and struck out one.

 

On the year, Backes is 6-2 with one save and a 5.61 ERA in 18 appearances. He has struck out 43 batters in 59.1 innings of work.

 

Quincy (29-23) is currently in third-place in the GLVC West Division standings with a 10-9 divisional mark. The Hawks will look to secure a berth in the GLVC Tournament as they complete their conference schedule at Missouri S&T on Tuesday.

 

Other top performers in GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Todd Duckworth, Indianapolis’ Justin Russell, Lewis’ Chris McCall, Missouri S&T’s Thomas McCormick and Rockhurst’s Steve Braun.
