Quincy University’s Brandon England (Plantation, Fla.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
England, a junior outfielder for the Hawks, paced the Quincy offensive attack last week in their five contests.
On the week, England batted .500 (10-20) with seven RBIs, six runs scored, three doubles and a home run.
He opened the week with a 1-for-4 effort in Quincy’s 8-4 win over Truman State.
England returned in the Southern Indiana series to go 9-for-16 (.563) with four runs, seven RBIs, two doubles and a home run.
Included in the weekend efforts was a 3-for-3 effort with four RBIs in Quincy’s 6-5 win on Saturday. Backes also clubbed a two-run walk-off home run in the victory.
He also went 3-for-3 in the first game on Sunday, a 6-4 loss for the Hawks. He had two RBIs and a run scored in the defeat.
On the year, England is batting .318 with 27 RBIs, 23 runs scored, four doubles and two home runs.
Quincy (29-23) is currently in third-place in the GLVC West Division standings with a 10-9 divisional mark. The Hawks will look to secure a berth in the GLVC Tournament as they complete their conference schedule at Missouri S&T on Tuesday.
Other top performers in GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Michael Thompson, Indianapolis’ Jordan Tiegs and Northern Kentucky’s Dave Middendorf.
