Northern Kentucky University’s Steven Beattie (Skerries, Ireland) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The junior forward paced the second-ranked Norse to a pair of wins last week, including an overtime victory at Southern Indiana.
In NKU’s 2-1 win over USI on Thursday, Beattie buried a free kick from 30 yards out in overtime to deliver a come-from-behind victory for the Norse in their GLVC opener.
He returned on Sunday to again capitalize in the clutch, converting his second free kick for a goal on the week, this time in the 84th minute to give the Norse a 1-0 win at Findlay.
On the week, Beattie scored two goals on five shots on goal, each a game-winning tally. He now has a team-high four goals this season. All four goals have been the game-winning score.
NKU (4-0, 1-0 GLVC) will visit Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday and host Bellarmine on Tuesday.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Ben Taylor, Indianapolis’ Bobby Adkins, Missouri-St. Louis’ Tim Boruff, Rockhurst’s Patrick White and Saint Joseph’s Greg Gehrig.
