Southern Indiana’s Mary Ballinger has been selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Runner of the Week. The senior led the Screaming Eagles to a first-place finish at the Stegemoller Classic on Friday.
Ballinger pushed the pace and won the 4K race with a time of 13:51, ahead of the 61 other runners in the meet. Ballinger was followed by teammate, Jackie Henderson, who finished 47 seconds behind Ballinger. USI was able to capture six of the top 10 places in the meet.
The Screaming Eagles are currently ranked 14th in the USTFCCAA pre-season polls and second in the Midwest Regional Poll.
USI runners will return to action Sept. 26, when they host the Pre-National Invitational.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Northern Kentucky’s Danielle Mercer, Lewis’ Kathryn Hague, and Maryville’s Ashley Lane.
