INDIANPOLIS, Ind. – Lewis University’s Cory Mastey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The sophomore forward posted four goals and a shootout goal in two matches last week.
Mastey recorded a hat trick in Lewis’ 3-2 win over host Upper Iowa on Oct. 18. His three goals helped the Flyers erase an early 1-0 deficit. Mastey scored his first goal at the 36:06 mark of the first half and posted the go-ahead score with 15 seconds remaining in the first half. He scored the game-winner in the 62nd minute.
In Lewis’ 1-1 double overtime tie against host Rockhurst University in the GLVC Tournament Quarterfinal on Oct. 22, Mastey scored the game-tying goal in the 49th minute. Lewis was able to advance in the tournament by virtue of a 3-1 shootout win. Mastey posted a penalty kick goal in the shootout to keep the Flyers’ championship drive alive.
Mastey leads the Flyers with 12 goals on the year. He has added four assists for a team-high 28 points.
Lewis is 12-5-1 overall and will face top seed SIU Edwardsville in the GLVC Championship Tournament Quarterfinals on Oct. 27 in Edwardsville, Ill.
