Drury University’s Steve Wilczewski, a senior from Springfield, Mo., is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The Panthers’ forward helped his club seal a pair of victories last week and kept Drury unbeaten on the year.
In Drury’s 1-0 win at Missouri S&T on Friday, Wilczewski buried the game-winning goal in the 65th minute. He converted a cross from Jake Allison to register the key road victory.
Wilczewski added two more goals and an assist as Drury upended host Maryville on Sunday, 7-0. He scored the second goal of the match in the ninth minute on an assist from Micah Whorton and added another goal in the 51st minute on an assist from Andrew Bordelon. Wilczewski also posted an assist on Whorton’s goal in the 63rd minute to finish the match with five points.
On the week, Wilczewski scored three goals and added an assist to rack up seven points. He now has six goals and four assists on the season. His 16 points are second on the team and Wilczewski is ranked eighth in the league in points per match (1.78).
The tenth-ranked Panthers (9-0) are atop the GLVC standings at 6-0 and have not surrendered a goal in their last eight contests. Drury will host Missouri-St. Louis and Southern Indiana this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Justin Roberts, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Luke Church, Lewis’ Nestor Hernandez, Northern Kentucky’s Seth Eckerlin, Rockhurst’s Haggai Leboo and Saint Joseph’s Greg Gehrig.
