Quincy University’s Michael Andres, a freshman from Ballwin, Mo., is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week. Andres, a midfielder for the Hawks, posted six points last week, helping Quincy to a 1-0-1 mark.
In Quincy’s 1-1 tie with Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday, Andres netted the game-tying goal in the 74th minute on an assist from Scott Greubel, sending the match into overtime. He finished the contest with four shots and three shots on goal.
Andres also played a role in each of Quincy’s three goals in a 3-2 win over visiting Bellarmine on Sunday. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half to the Knights, Andres assisted on goals by Carl Hodges and Jeff Vaninger prior to intermission.
Bellarmine again knotted the score in the second half, but Andres provided the game-winning goal in the 88th minute on an assist from Jack Wedemeier. He finished the match with four points.
The two goals and two assists are the first two in each statistical category for Andres on the year. He is fourth on the team with six points this season.
Quincy (6-4-2) is 5-2-1 in the GLVC this season and in sole possession of fourth place in the league standings. The Hawks will visit Northern Kentucky and Indianapolis this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Andrew Bordelon, Indianapolis’ Hunter Extine, Northern Kentucky’s Keith Kelly, Rockhurst’s Kyle Miller, Saint Joseph’s Greg Gehrig and UW-Parkside’s Jon Bebeau.
