University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Erin Higgins, a sophomore from Bettendorf, Iowa, is the Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. The outside hitter led the Tritons to wins over Drury and Rockhurst in GLVC action last week.
In UMSL’s 3-0 win over Drury on Friday, Higgins recorded 10 kills and hit at a .333 clip. She also posted two service aces and three blocks to finish the match with 13.5 points.
Higgins returned on Saturday in the Tritons’ 3-1 win over visiting Rockhurst to post a career-high 22 kills. She hit .341 in the match and finished with two digs, two blocks and 23 points.
On the week, Higgins averaged 4.57 kills and 5.21 points per set. She hit .338 for the week and also tallied 0.29 service aces, 0.29 digs and 0.71 blocks per set.
Higgins has reached double-digit kills in each of the Tritons’ last four matches and is averaging 3.82 kills per set during the stretch, while hitting at a .346 clip. On the year, she is averaging 2.73 kills per set and is hitting .291.
UMSL (15-7) surged into a tie for third-place in the GLVC standings following the victories. The Tritons are 6-2 in league play and will travel to the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament this weekend to face Northwood, Ferris State and Grand Valley State.
