Northern Kentucky University’s Steven Beattie, a junior from Skerries, Ireland, is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week. Beattie, a forward for the Norse, led his club to a pair of key GLVC road wins over the weekend.
In Northern Kentucky’s 2-1 win at 3rd-ranked Drury on Friday, Beattie scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute, halting the Panthers’ 13-match winning streak.
Beattie returned on Sunday to score a pair of goals, including the game-winning tally, in Northern Kentucky’s 3-1 win at Missouri S&T. He posted his first goal of the contest in the 49th minute on an assist from Jordan Grant. Beattie added an insurance goal in the 55th minute off a throw-in from Anthony Meyer.
On the week, Beattie scored three goals, two of which were game-winning scores, on seven shots and three shots on goal. In addition, he became the all-time leading goal scorer for the Norse with his first goal against S&T, surpassing Chad Scott who held the mark with 46 career goals.
Beattie leads the league with 16 goals and 37 points this season.
Northern Kentucky (13-2-1), currently ranked 12th in the country, pulled to within one game of Drury in the league standings. The Norse are 10-2 in the GLVC and will visit Carson-Newman on Wednesday before closing the regular season with home matches with Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Micah Whorton, Indianapolis’ Roger Lee, Lewis’ Charlie Bucio, Missouri-St. Louis’ Blair Spencer, Southern Indiana’s Simon Rawnsley and UW-Parkside’s Dave Mercer.
