Drury University’s Alex Hall (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Hall, a freshman guard for the Panthers, led his team to a pair of victories to open the season, including an upset of third-ranked Southwest Baptist.
In Drury’s 99-86 win over Southwest Baptist on Monday, Hall scored a game-high 33 points and tied a school record with eight three pointers. He finished the night 10-for-14 (.714) from the field, 5-for-5 from the free throw line and 8-for-11 (.727) from behind the three-point line. Hall also chipped in five assists, four steals and two rebounds.
Hall returned on Thursday night to hit eight three-point field goals for the second straight game. He posted 29 points, including all but two in the first half, as Drury sailed to a 108-81 victory over Central Christian. Hall was 10-for-17 (.588) from the field and 8-for-13 (.615) from behind the three-point line. He pulled down five rebounds and had two assists in the win.
On the week, Hall averaged 31 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. He shot 64.5 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the three-point line. The eight three-pointers in each game tied the single-game school record shared by Matt Miller, Steven Gum and Tim Oetting.
Drury (2-0) will next host Mid-America Christian tonight and Ouachita Baptist on Saturday.
