University of Indianapolis’ Samantha Meissel (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Meissel, a junior forward for the 10th-ranked Greyhounds, guided her club to three wins over regional opponents last week.
UIndy opened the week with a 93-39 win against visiting Central State on Tuesday. In the victory, Meissel posted game-highs of 26 points and seven rebounds in just 21 minutes. She shot a blistering 85.7 percent from the field by converting 12 of her 14 field goal attempts on the night.
Meissel returned on Friday to score 19 points in UIndy’s 93-39 win over visiting Oakland City in the first round of the UIndy Thanksgiving Classic. She was 8-for-14 (.571) from the field and added two rebounds and an assist.
She capped the Thanksgiving Classic by pouring in 21 points and pulling down four rebounds in the Greyhounds’ 68-55 win over Lake Superior State on Saturday. In just 22 minutes of action, Meissel was 8-for-12 (.667) from the field and 2-for-3 (.667) from behind the three-point line.
On the week, Meissel averaged 22 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. She averaged more points than minutes played (20.3 mpg) and shot 70 percent from the field. Meissel was also 3-for-5 (.600) from the three-point line and 7-for-8 (.875) from the free throw line.
UIndy has opened the season with five consecutive wins for the third straight season and will next host 15th-ranked Northern Kentucky on Thursday and Indiana-Northwest on Saturday.
