University of Southern Indiana senior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Ill./Richwood/Illinois) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Smith averaged 28.5 points per game in two league contests to help the Eagles remain undefeated on the year.
 
In USI’s 75-62 win over sixth-ranked Bellarmine on Thursday, Smith posted a game-high 28 points. He added five rebounds and two assists in the win, while finishing 11-for-21 (.524) from the field and 6-for-13 (.462) from the three-point line.
 
Smith returned on Saturday to pour in a career-high 29 points in the Eagles’ 69-50 win over visiting Northern Kentucky. He was 11-for-15 (.733) from the field and 4-for-7 (.571) from the three-point line. Smith also collected six rebounds, three assists and a steal in the victory.
 
On the week, Smith averaged 28.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He shot 61.1 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three-point line and hit all three of his free throw attempts.
 
USI (6-0) moved to 2-0 in league play with the victories. The Eagles will next face Indiana-Southeast and Ohio Valley at the Bellarmine University Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
 
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Alex Hall, Indianapolis’ Darius Adams, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Desmond Stephens, Quincy’s Billy Baptist, Rockhurst’s Aaron Hill and UW-Parkside’s Jeremy Saffold.
