Saint Joseph’s College sophomore forward Tatiana Ortiz (Chicago, Ill./Von Steuben) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Ortiz guided the Pumas to an 82-64 win over Judson on Tuesday.
In the victory, Ortiz posted a game-high 18 points and added six steals, five assists and two rebounds. She finished the contest 8-for-12 (.750) from the field and canned 2-of-4 (.500) three-point attempts.
The Pumas jumped out to a 12-0 advantage in the first four minutes of the contest with Ortiz contributing six points in the run. Following the strong start, Saint Joseph’s led throughout the contest and by as many as 28 points in the second half.
On the year, Ortiz is averaging 17.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.6 steals per game. She is shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 46 percent from the three-point line. Ortiz is tied for second in the league in scoring, third in steals per game and fifth in three-point field goals made per game (2.56).
Saint Joseph’s (3-6) has won two of its last three contests, including a league win over Rockhurst. The Pumas will travel to the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge at Lake Superior State on Tuesday and Wednesday. Saint Joseph’s will play Northwood and host Lake Superior State at the event.
