INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s LaVontay Fenderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine’s) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The sophomore forward led the Rangers to three wins at the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic over the weekend.
Fenderson was named Co-Most Outstanding Player of the Group Strength pool at the event after averaging 19.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
He tallied 25 points in UW-Parkside’s 79-63 season-opening win over South Carolina-Aiken on Nov. 10. He was 11-of-21 (.523) from the field and collected five rebounds, two assists and four steals.
Fenderson was 5-of-9 (.555) from the field and knocked down three three-point field goals in the Rangers’ 86-75 victory over No. 16 South Dakota on Nov. 11. He finished with 17 points and five rebounds as well as four assists and a steal.
In UW-Parkside’s 73-66 win over Shippensburg on Nov. 12, Fenderson scored 16 points on 5-of-12 (.416) shooting. He was 6-of-7 (.857) from the free throw line and also had six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
For the week, Fenderson was 21-of-42 (.500) from the field, 4-of-8 (.500) from the three-point line, 12-of-14 (.857) from the free throw line and had 16 rebounds, eight assists and six steals.
UW-Parkside (3-0) returns to action on Nov. 17 at Michigan Tech.
