Northern Kentucky University senior center David Palmer (Nashville, Tenn./Oak Hill (Va.)) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Palmer poured in 39 points in NKU’s 91-89 overtime victory against UC-Clermont on Wednesday.

In the win, Palmer finished 17-for-27 (.629) from the field and was 5-for-6 (.833) from the free throw line. He just missed recording his second double-double of the season by pulling down nine rebounds.

Palmer netted the first eight points for the Norse and helped NKU build an early advantage. NKU would hold the lead throughout the contest before surrendering it with just over two minutes to play. Palmer responded by scoring the final bucket in regulation and forcing the overtime session.

The 17 field goals Palmer converted tied the NKU single-game record and his 39 points tied for third most in Norse single-game history.

On the year, Palmer is averaging 18.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He is shooting 56.5 percent from the field and has posted a team-best 17 blocked shots. Palmer is ranked fifth in the GLVC in scoring, seventh in rebounding and second in blocked shots per game (1.55).

NKU (7-4) will return to league action on Saturday against visiting Lewis.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ DeWann Squires and Lewis’ Matt Toth.
