University of Southern Indiana senior guard Jamar Smith (Peoria, Ill./Richwood/Illinois) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Smith guided the 10th-ranked Eagles over the century mark in each of two wins last week.
 
In USI’s 106-61 victory over visiting Brevard on Tuesday, Smith posted 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He was 8-for-14 (.571) from the field and connected on 7-of-10 (.700) three-point attempts. Smith also added four assists, two steals and a blocked shot in the non-conference win over the South Atlantic Conference foe.  
 
USI topped Illinois-Springfield on Saturday, 110-68, with Smith leading the way with a game-high 40 points. It marked just the second time In USI history that a player reached 40 points and was the highest output by an Eagle in the PAC which opened for the 1980-81 season.
 
Smith finished the contest 12-for-14 (.857) from the field and converted 8-of-10 (.800) three-point field goal attempts in the win. He also pulled down five rebounds and had four assists and a steal.
 
On the week, Smith averaged 31.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He shot 71.4 percent from the field (20-28), 75.0 percent from the three-point line (15-20) and 88.9 percent from the free throw line (8-9).
 
Smith is leading the league in scoring this season by averaging 24.8 points per game and is also tops in three-point field goals per game (5.08). In addition, Smith ranks in the top ten in the league in assists per game (4.08), three-point field goal percentage (54.5%) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.13).
 
USI (12-0) has posted 100-plus points in five consecutive contests and currently has a 3-0 record in league play. The Eagles will face Saint Joseph’s, Missouri S&T and Maryville this week.
