University of Indianapolis junior forward Samantha Meissel (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Meissel guided the third-ranked Greyhounds to three wins on the week and went over 30 points in two of the wins.
In UIndy’s 101-44 win at Illinois-Springfield on Monday, Meissel scored 17 points and had nine rebounds. She was 7-of-12 from the field (.583) and also had two blocked shots and a steal.
Meissel helped the Greyhounds hold off Maryville on Thursday, 80-70, by pouring in a game-high 30 points. She was 11-of-17 from the field (.647), 4-of-4 from the three-point line (1.000) and 4-of-6 from the free throw line (.667). Meissel also posted seven rebounds, one assist and a steal.
In UIndy’s 89-61 win at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday, Meissel posted a game-high 33 points and had six rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. She was 12-of-16 from the field (.750) and 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
On the week, Meissel averaged 26.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. She shot 66.7 percent from the field (30-45), 55.6 percent from the three-point line (55.6) and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (15-18).
Meissel is averaging a league-best 21.1 points per game this season and also ranks third in the league in field goal percentage (57.7). She is also averaging 4.5 rebounds per game and is shooting 80.3 percent from the free throw line.
UIndy (14-0) remained unbeaten on the year with the victories and is 5-0 in the GLVC. The Greyhounds are first in the GLVC East Division and will visit Bellarmine and host Lewis this weekend.
