University of Indianapolis junior forward Samantha Meissel (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Meissel led the third-ranked Greyhounds to league victories over Bellarmine and Lewis last week.
 
In UIndy’s 71-68 win at Bellarmine on Thursday, Meissel recorded her first double-double of the season and fifth of her career by notching 17 points and 11 rebounds. She shot 50 percent from the field (6-12) and had two assists, a blocked shot and a steal.
 
Meissel also connected on a pair of free throws with 1:13 to play to provide the winning points in the contest. She finished the game 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
 
UIndy topped visiting Lewis 78-59 on Saturday and Meissel poured in a game-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting (.667). She was 2-for-4 (.500) from behind the three-point line and hit all five free throw attempts. Meissel also chipped in three rebounds, three blocked shots and an assist.
 
On the week, Meissel averaged 20.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and shot 58.3 percent from the field. She was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line and converted 3-of-5 three-point attempts (.600). Meissel also had four blocks, three assists and a steal in the two contests.
 
Meissel is averaging a league-best 21.0 points per game this season. She is also averaging 4.8 rebounds per game and shooting 57.7 percent from the field and 82.5 percent from the free throw line.
 
UIndy (16-0) is one win shy of the program record for consecutive victories and is 7-0 in the GLVC. The Greyhounds play Missouri S&T tonight and host Southern Indiana and Kentucky Wesleyan this weekend.
 
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Destiny Mattingly, Maryville’s Abby Duethman, Quincy’s Janette Burgin, Rockhurst’s Meghan Hurley and Southern Indiana’s Amie Newhart.
