INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.Northern Kentucky University’s Steven Wright (Dayton, Ohio/Colonel White) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior guard led the Norse to wins over Ferris State and Wayne State at the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic at Northern Kentucky over the weekend.
 
Wright earned most outstanding player honors at the GLVC/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) event after averaging 18 points and four rebounds per game while shooting 70 percent from the field.
 
In Northern Kentucky’s 73-59 win over Ferris State on Nov. 17, Wright netted a game-high 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. He was 1-for-2 from behind the arc and converted 4-of-5 free throw attempts. Wright finished with three rebounds, two assists and a steal. He helped the Norse build a 44-29 halftime lead by scoring 13 points before the break.
 
Wright poured in 17 points in NKU’s 75-69 win over Wayne State on Nov. 18. He was 7-for-12 from the field and knocked down three three-point field goals. Wright also grabbed five rebounds and registered two steals in the win.
 
Northern Kentucky (2-0) enters conference-play on Nov. 21 when the Norse travel to Bellarmine University at 8 p.m.
 
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Dzaflo Larkai, Drury’s Tim Brown, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Jeff Fahnbulleh, Lewis’ Jason Genova (Chicago, Ill.), Quincy’s Joel Box, Rockhurst’s Joey Deas, SIU Edwardsville’s Nick Arth and Southern Indiana’s Rashard Sullivan.
