Quincy University junior forward Courtney Shuman (Kahoka, Mo.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Shuman posted 20-plus points in two GLVC victories for the Lady Hawks last week.
In Quincy’s 105-93 victory over visiting Bellarmine on Thursday, Shuman scored a team-high 25 points. She shot 64.3 percent from the field (9-14) and 87.5 percent from the free throw line (7-8) while also tallying four rebounds, three steals, two assists and a blocked shot.
The Lady Hawks topped Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday, 90-77, behind Shuman’s game-high 21 points. She connected on 70 percent of her field goal attempts and hit on 7-of-8 free throw attempts. Shuman also had five rebounds and two steals in the victory.
In the two contests, Shuman averaged 23 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game. She shot 66.7 percent from the field (16-24) and 87.5 percent from the free throw line.
On the season, Shuman is averaging 13.5 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game. She ranks sixth in the league in rebounding and she is shooting 54.9 percent from the field which places her fifth in the league.
Quincy (15-5) is 6-5 in the GLVC this season and is currently third in the North Division. The Lady Hawks, winners of three straight games, will host Illinois-Springfield and Saint Joseph’s this week.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Lindsay Ballweg, Indianapolis’ Jessica Canary, Lewis’ Kelly Dianis, Maryville’s Abby Duethman and Northern Kentucky’s Brandi Rayburn.
