INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Lewis University’s Darcee Schmidt (Machesney Park, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior forward helped the Flyers to wins over Lake Superior State and host Michigan Tech at the GLVC/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Challenge on Nov. 17-18.
Schmidt averaged 19.5 points, shot 59.3 percent from the field and pulled down three rebounds per game in the two victories.
In Lewis’ 72-62 win over Lake Superior State on Nov. 17, Schmidt tallied a team-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field. She was 2-for-2 from behind the three-point line and had three rebounds in just 20 minutes.
Schmidt netted a game-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field in the Flyers’ 82-69 win over Michigan Tech on Nov. 18. She tied a career-high by knocking down four three-pointers and finished 4-for-5 from behind the arc. Schmidt finished with three rebounds, a block and steal.
Lewis (2-0) will return to action when Ferris State visits on Nov. 21. The Flyers will travel to North Dakota and Minnesota St.-Moorhead this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Taylor Kopple, Drury’s Molly Carter, Kentucky Wesleyan’s Latosha Lawrence, Indianapolis’ Mandy Geryak, Quincy’s Jessica Keller and SIU Edwardsville’s Amber Shelton.
