Southern Indiana’s Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

 

Ballinger, a senior for the Eagles, recorded the NCAA D-II seasonal-best mile time of 4:53.53 over  weekend when she took eighth place at the Indiana University Relays. This performance guarantees Ballinger her third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship. She also contributed to a ninth-place finish in the distance medley relay.

 

Southern Indiana returns to action February 12-13, sending half the team to Allendale, Mich. for the Grand Valley State Big Meet and the other half to the DePauw Indoor Invitational in Greencastle, Ind.

 

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Kierra Allen and Lewis’ Kathryn Hague.
