Lewis University junior forward Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Turpel averaged 27.5 points for the Flyers as they captured two GLVC wins and moved into a tie for first place in the GLVC North Division.
In Lewis’ 85-51 win over visiting Saint Joseph’s on Thursday, Turpel posted career-highs of 37 points and 17 rebounds. She shot 64 percent from the field (16-25) and also had four blocked shots and an assist in the victory. With the impressive output, Turpel set or tied league single game-highs this season for points, field goals made and field goals attempted.
Turpel returned in Lewis’ 74-58 win over UW-Parkside on Saturday to tally a game-high 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists. She shot 42.9 percent from the field (6-14) and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line, helping the Flyers pull into a first-place tie with the Rangers for the top spot in the GLVC North Division standings.
On the week, Turpel averaged 27 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocked shots per game. She shot 56.4 percent from the field (22-39) and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (10-12).
Turpel is averaging a team-best 16.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game this season for the Flyers. She is fourth in the league in both scoring and rebounding and ranks sixth in the league in blocked shots per game (1.0) and ninth in the league in field goal percentage (51.5).
Lewis (14-9) has won four straight and eight of its last ten games. The Flyers are 10-4 in the GLVC and will travel to UW-Parkside and host Saint Joseph’s this weekend.
