Kentucky Wesleyan College senior center Andree’ Wilson (Spanish Town, Jamaica) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Wilson helped the Panthers extend their winning streak to nine games with victories at 2nd-ranked Southern Indiana and at Bellarmine last week.
In the win at USI on Monday, the Panthers snapped the Eagles’ 23-game winning streak behind Wilson’s double-double off the bench. He finished with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Wilson shot 75 percent from the floor (6-8), was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line and added two steals.
Wilson returned on Saturday to turn in a team-high 17 points and a game-high seven rebounds in the Panthers’ 71-69 win at Bellarmine. He shot 85.7 percent from the field (6-7) and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (5-6) while chipping in three steals and an assist. In addition, Wilson nailed two free throws with 13 seconds to play to ice the victory.
On the week, Wilson averaged 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. He shot 80 percent from the field (12-15) and 90 percent from the free throw line (9-10). Wilson also tallied five steals in the two contests.
Wilson is averaging 10.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this season for the Panthers. He is also ranked fourth in the GLVC in field goal percentage as he converts 58.6 percent of his attempts.
Kentucky Wesleyan (27-3) finished the GLVC regular season with a 16-2 record. The Panthers have secured the top seed in the East Division and face the winner of the Missouri-St. Louis-UW-Parkside first-round contest in the quarterfinal round of the GLVC Tournament on Sunday.
