Northern Kentucky University junior pitcher Dave Middendorf (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Middendorf combined with teammates Blake Bagshaw and Jeff Blaum to secure a shutout in the Norse season opener at Montevallo on Saturday. Middendorf got the win in the nine-inning ballgame by going five innings and scattering four hits in a 13-0 victory. He struck out five and walked just one in his first start of the season.
The 2009 Third-Team All-GLVC left-hander helped the Norse secure a win in the season’s first contest for the first time since 2006 and for just the second time in eight years.
Northern Kentucky (1-2) will return to action at Christian Brothers this weekend.
Other top performers in GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Braxton Graven and Missouri S&T’s Chris Bowe.
