Northern Kentucky University junior pitcher April Ehlers (Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Ehlers posted a 2-2 record with a 0.81 ERA for the Norse at the Charger Chillout over the weekend. In a 1-0 loss to 20th-ranked Wayne State on Friday, Ehlers threw a complete game and surrendered just three hits and one earned run, while striking out five.
She returned on Saturday to pick up both of her wins on the weekend. Ehlers helped NKU top Columbus State 8-0 in five innings by going the distance and allowing just one hit. She struck out eight and walked just one in the victory.
In NKU’s 4-3 win over West Georgia in the nightcap, Ehlers entered the game in the first inning with her team down 2-0 and went all seven innings without surrendering an earned run. She allowed just one hit and struck out 10 in the come-from-behind win.
She closed the tournament with a five-hit, six-strikeout performance in a 3-1 loss to North Alabama on Sunday.
She finished the weekend with 29 strikeouts and just 10 hits allowed in 26 innings of work.
Northern Kentucky (2-4) will next host Rockhurst and Quincy on March 5 and 6.
