Lewis University sophomore Karissa Habel (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Habel recorded three wins and a save for the Flyers last week and helped her club go 5-1 on the week. She was 3-0 and did not allow an earned run in four appearances. Habel threw 17 innings and posted a pair of complete games. She struck out 12 and walked just one.
In Lewis’ 3-2 win over Lake Erie on Mar. 1, Habel scattered nine hits in going the distance. She stuck out five and walked one.
Habel returned on Mar. 3 to earn a save in Lewis’ 5-4 win over Mount Olive and grab the victory in the Flyers’ 13-12 win over Lynn.
She closed the week with a 9-4 victory against Northwood. Habel again did not allow an earned run and struck out six, while giving up six hits.
On the year, Habel is 4-1 with a 0.92 earned run average. She has 21 strikeouts in 30 and one-third innings pitched and opponents are sporting a .271 batting average.
Lewis (8-4) has won seven of its last eight games and will return to action at the Missouri Western State Invitational this weekend.
