Lewis University senior Joe Scumaci (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Scumaci has helped the Flyers post seven consecutive victories and played a large role in their 7-1 non-conference win over Maryville on Wednesday.
In the victory, Scumaci recorded a nine-inning complete-game by scattering four hits and allowing just one earned run. He struck out 13 Saints in the win and walked just one.
The senior pitcher is 2-1 on the season with a 2.61 earned run average. He has struck out 13 batters in two consecutive games and has 33 strikeouts in 20 and two-third innings on the year.
Lewis (8-5), which is now 6-0 against in-region opponents, will open the GLVC portion of its schedule at Maryville and Missouri S&T this weekend.
Other top performers in GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Cory Rupert, Missouri-St. Louis’ Kenny Bechaud, Quincy’s Brett Zurliene, Southern Indiana’s Wandy Rosario and UW-Parkside’s Alex Zarek.
