INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Amber Shelton (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The junior forward guided the Cougars to road wins over Bellarmine University and No. 10 Northern Kentucky University last week.
 
Shelton tallied 20 points and pulled down five rebounds in SIU Edwardsville’s 71-61 win over previously unbeaten Bellarmine on Nov. 30. She was 8-of-17 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Shelton also contributed three assists and four steals in the victory.
 
She returned on Dec. 2 to knock down the game-winning shot with four seconds to play in the Cougars’ 65-64 win at Northern Kentucky. Shelton finished with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting. She collected eight rebounds, two assists and three steals in the win.
 
For the week, Shelton averaged 22 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field. She connected on 40 percent of her three-point attempts, was 6-of-7 (.857) from the free throw line and added 3.5 steals and 2.5 assists per game.
 
Shelton is averaging 20 points per game this season to lead all GLVC performers and is also recording 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game.
 
SIU Edwardsville remained unbeaten with the victories at 5-0 overall and is in first place in the GLVC West Division with a 2-0 mark.
 
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Ashley Lewallen, Drury’s Sara Bos, Lewis’ Darcee Schmidt, Northern Kentucky’s Brittany Winner, Rockhurst’s Courtney Farmer and Southern Indiana’s Katie Thiesenhusen.
