Northern Kentucky junior Dave Middendorf (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Middendorf posted an impressive win over Saint Joseph’s on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader. In the 9-2 victory of the Pumas, he struck out 11 batters, taking his total of strikeouts on the season to a team-leading 51.
In seven innings, Middendorf gave up three hits, one walk and did not allow an earned run. His 11 strikeouts marked the third straight start he has struck out at least 10 batters.
On the season, Middendorf’s shares the conference lead with five wins (5-1) and his 51 strikeouts rank him second in the GLVC. He boasts a 1.91 ERA and opponents are batting just .205.
Northern Kentucky (19-7) is 9-1 in GLVC play and will host Urbana on Tuesday before traveling to Romeoville to meet Lewis this weekend.
Other top performers in GLVC last week included Southern Indiana’s Taylor Dennis, Missouri S&T’s Zac Helton, Quincy’s Caleb Zang, Indianapolis’ Matt Widick, Lewis’ Pat Lahey and UW-Parkside’s Jack Olson.
