INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Quincy University’s Joel Box (Rockford, Ill./Christian Life) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior forward connected on 70 percent of his field goal attempts in the Hawks’ wins over Lewis University and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside last week.
In Quincy’s 79-64 win over Lewis on Dec. 7, Box posted 22 points on 10-of-13 (.769) shooting. He delivered nine rebounds and had seven blocked shots, the second highest single-game total in school history. Box also contributed an assist and steal in the contest.
Box returned on Dec. 9 to post a double-double against visiting UW-Parkside. He finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds in the 82-72 victory. He was 11-of-17 (.647) from the floor and 3-of-4 (.750) from the free throw line and also contributed two blocked shots, an assist and steal.
For the week, Box averaged 23.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocked shots per game. He was 21-of-30 (.700) from the field and had two assists and two steals.
He is averaging 13.5 points, six rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game this season and has helped the Hawks move to 8-1 overall on the year. Quincy is 3-1 in conference play and in a three-way tie for first place in the GLVC West Division.
