Lewis University’s Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. Lapimaa, a sophomore for the Flyers, collected four wins last week, helping Lewis earn their first conference wins of the season.
In Lewis’ win over Illinois-Springfield, Lapimaa accounted for a win at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. He defeated Punsisi Dayaratne, 6-1, 6-2, and teamed with Tonis Irdoja to defeat Josh Patrick and Dayaratne in doubles play, 8-3.
Lapimaa picked up another pair of wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in the Flyers’ 9-0 win over Saint Joseph’s on Saturday. He topped Ishan Gohil, 6-1, 6-2 and with partner Irdoja at No. 1 doubles collected an 8-4 win over Miguel Belcina and Gohil.
Lapimaa has extended his singles winning streak to 14 matches. On the year, he is 20-1 overall in singles action and a combined 15-6 in doubles play.
Lewis (8-4), 1-0 in GLVC play, travels to St. Louis to take on Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis later this week.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Northern Kentucky’s Lee Lonergan, Southern Indiana’s Joseph Boesing and Rockhurst’s Ben Newell.
