Lewis University junior third baseman Richard Forkin (Orland Park, Ill./Lockport) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
Forkin helped Lewis take a four-game series from 19th-ranked Northern Kentucky over the weekend. Lewis was 3-1 as Forkin batted .619 with seven RBIs, six runs and a pair of doubles.
In Lewis’ 11-10 win on Friday, Forkin was 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a double. He returned in the nightcap to deliver the game-winning RBI in the tenth inning, helping the Flyers to an 8-7 victory. In the game, he was 1-for -4 with a pair of RBIs.
Forkin capped the weekend by going 5-for-9 on Saturday. Lewis won the first game of the day, 10-5, with Forkin going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs and an RBI.
On the season, he is batting .394 with 19 RBIs, 16 runs and four doubles. The Flyers (17-16) are 8-8 in the GLVC and sit fourth in the GLVC standings. Lewis will play St. Xavier and Kentucky Wesleyan this week.
