Quincy junior Torie Bunzell (Utica, Ill./Lima-Peru) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Bunzell posted a 3-0 record in the circle last week, helping the Lady Hawks extend their winning streak to 10 games. On the week, Bunzell did not allow an earned run in three complete-game efforts. She struck out 42 batters in 21 innings of work and allowed just seven hits.
In Quincy’s 3-0 win over Lincoln on Monday, Bunzell threw a two-hit shutout, struck out 10 and did not allow a walk.
She returned on Wednesday to pitch a three-hit shutout in the Lady Hawks’ 6-0 win over Illinois-Springfield. Bunzell tied a career-high with 19 strikeouts, the second-most strikeouts in an NCAA seven-inning contest, and did not allow a walk.
Bunzell completed the week with a 6-1 win over Bellarmine. She allowed two hits and struck out 13.
On the year, she is 10-4 with a 0.54 earned run average. Bunzell has posted 143 strikeouts in 90 and one-third innings of work.
Quincy (18-7) is tied for first place in the league standings with an 8-2 record. The Lady Hawks will meet Saint Joseph’s, Drury and Missouri S&T this week.
