Saint Joseph’s College freshman Katee Sanderson (Wheatfield, Ind./Michigan City) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
The Pumas remained unbeaten in league play following the week, picking up victories over regionally-ranked Southern Indiana and Indianapolis. Sanderson led the way with a pair of wins at No. 1 singles and a 1-1 record at No. 2 doubles.
In Saint Joseph’s 6-3 win over Indianapolis on Friday, Sanderson defeated Lee Matthews, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Sanderson and teammate Heather Esker fell to Alena Perez-Majul and Maggie Ashby, 8-3.
She returned on Saturday to lead the Pumas to a 5-0 win over Southern Indiana on Saturday. Sanderson topped Gretchen Cantwell at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2. She and Esker also defeated Cantwell and Katie Clagg, 8-5.
On the year, Sanderson is 16-2 overall at No. 1 doubles and 16-2 in singles play. She has helped the Pumas to a 14-2 overall record and 3-0 league mark.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Katie Hargrove and Rockhurst’s Maureen Rielley.
