Quincy junior Torie Bunzell (Utica, Ill./Lima-Peru) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Bunzell went 5-0 in the circle last week, recorded her first perfect game in a win over Saint Joseph’s and notched her sixth career no-hitter in a victory over Drury. She finished the week with a 0.25 earned run average, 52 strikeouts and allowed just 10 hits in 28 innings of work.
She opened the week with the perfect game against the Pumas on Monday in a 9-0 win. Bunzell struck out 11 in five innings of work. She then recorded a win in the Lady Hawks’ 3-1 decision in the night cap, striking out 10 and allowing just three hits in four innings of relief work.
On Saturday, Bunzell posted tossed a no-hitter in the Lady Hawks’ 3-0 win against Drury. In the win, she recorded 13 strikeouts and gave up three walks in the seven-inning shutout.
Bunzell capped the week by pitching two complete-game victories over Missouri S&T on Sunday. She allowed three hits and one earned run, while striking out eight in the opener, a 9-1 Quincy win, and surrendered four hits and struck out 10 in the Lady Hawks’ 2-0 win in the day’s second game.
On the year, Bunzell is 15-4 with a 0.47 ERA. She has recorded 17 complete games, seven shutouts and has 195 strikeouts in 118 and one-third innings of work.
Quincy (23-8) has won 15 of its last 16 games and is in first place in the GLVC standings with a 13-3 record. The Lady Hawks will face Missouri Western, Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis this week.
