Rockhurst University sophomore Maureen Rielley (Overland Park, Kan./Saint Louis) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Rielley paced the Hawks against the top three teams in the region and came away with a 5-1 record, including a 3-0 mark at No. 1 singles.
She opened the week by topping Drury’s Katia Bon, the 45th-ranked singles player in the nation and third-ranked player in the Midwest. Rielley took the match, 6-1, 2-6, 10-7. She also teamed with Erin Bales at No. 1 doubles to take Bon and Khrystsina Tryboi, the second-ranked doubles team in the region, to a tiebreak, falling 9-8 (7-4)
Against 17th-ranked Northwood, Rielley earned a win at No. 1 singles, defeating Ayana Kobayashi, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. She and Bales also collected a victory at No. 1 doubles, defeating Kobayashi and Svenja Stephan, 8-5.
Rielley defeated Tara Hayes of 31st-ranked Grand Valley State on Sunday at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-4. At No. 1 doubles, she and Bales topped Darylann Trout and Chelsea Johnston, the 24th-ranked doubles team in the nation, 8-2.
On the year, Rielley is 16-3 overall in singles and 11-6 overall in doubles.
Rockhurst (4-7) is 2-1 in the GLVC West Division and will play Northwest Missouri State, Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis this week.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Jana Schulz, Missouri-St. Louis’ Aya Gombo and Saint Joseph’s Heather Esker.
