University of Southern Indiana junior Joseph Boesing (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Boesing led the 40th-ranked Eagles to a 2-0 week and helped them close out the conference portion of the schedule unblemished at 5-0. He was 4-0 on the week, claiming a pair of wins at No. 3 singles and two victories at No. 1 doubles.
In USI’s 8-1 win over Lewis on Friday, Boesing defeated the Flyers’ Mike Wojnarowski at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1. He also teamed with Diego Gimenez at No. 1 doubles to defeat Uno Lapimaa and Tonis Irdoja, 8-3.
The Eagles topped Indianapolis on Saturday, 8-1, with Boesing again winning at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles. He defeated Jeff Price, 6-1, 6-0, and he and Gimenez topped Price and David Schoch, 9-7.
On the year, Boesing is 17-2 in singles and 25-3 in doubles. He is within 10 wins of tying the school record for wins in a season (52) that is currently held by USI Head Coach Chris Crawford. Boesing and Giminez are also currently ranked 21st nationally and first in the region as a doubles team.
The Eagles (17-3) have secured the top seed in the GLVC East Division for next week’s GLVC Men’s Tennis Championship.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Uno Lapimaa, Missouri-St. Louis’ Daniel Anthony and Rockhurst’s Ben Newell.
