Quincy University junior pitcher Torie Bunzell (Utica, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Bunzell posted a 4-0 record on the week and recorded three shutouts, a 0.32 earned run average, 45 strikeouts and her seventh career no-hitter.
She opened with a 12-2 win over Lincoln on Tuesday. Bunzell struck out four, allowed one earned run and just two hits in the outing.
On Wednesday, Bunzell recorded a one-hit shutout in Quincy’s 4-0 win over Truman State. She struck out 18 batters, the third-highest total in her career.
Bunzell returned on Saturday to no-hit Southern Indiana in a 2-0 victory over the Eagles. She struck out 17 in the win.
On Sunday, Bunzell posted an 8-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan, striking out six and allowing just three hits.
She is now 23-4 with a 0.54 earned run average and has a career-high 11 shutouts on the season. Bunzell has 283 strikeouts on the year and has tied the school career record for shutouts with 31.
Quincy (34-10) is currently in first place in the GLVC with a 19-4 conference record. The Lady Hawks will conclude the regular season with games at Northern Kentucky and Indianapolis this weekend.
Other top performers in GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Megan Russell, Southern Indiana’s Stephanie Bittner and UW-Parkside’s Kallie Walczak.
