Drury University senior middle hitter Kyrie Hopkins (Nixa, Mo./Nixa) is the Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Hopkins helped pace the Panthers to an undefeated weekend at the “Middle of Everywhere” Classic in Rolla, Mo.
In four matches at the event, Hopkins posted a .514 hitting percentage and averaged 3.61 kills and 1.00 blocks per set. She posted double-digit kills in each of the Panthers’ wins, including 21 in a five-set match with Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
In Friday’s wins over Missouri Western and Upper Iowa, Hopkins posted 14 and 17 kills, respectively. She hit .458 against Missouri Western and added six blocks and she added six blocks to go with a .394 hitting percentage against Upper Iowa. The Panthers took each match to five sets before sealing the victories.
On Saturday, Hopkins opened the day by posting 13 kills, five blocks and a .812 hitting percentage in Drury’s straight-set victory over Mary.  She hit .529 against Southeastern Oklahoma with 21 kills to help the Panthers pull out a five-set win.
On the season, Hopkins is averaging 3.24 kills, 0.67 blocks and 0.33 digs per set. She ranks third in the GLVC in hitting percentage (.409), fifth in kills per set and sixth in points per set (3.66).
Drury (9-3) has reeled off eight straight wins and will open the conference portion of its schedule on Friday at Maryville. The Panthers will finish the weekend with a road match at Missouri Southern.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Hannah Koeneman, Missouri S&T’s Samantha Klump, Missouri-St. Louis’ Weslie Gaff, Northern Kentucky’s Shelby Buschur, Rockhurst’s Emily Levy, Southern Indiana’s Danielle LaGrange, UIndy’s Courtney Anglemyer and UW-Parkside’s Tami Gleason.
