INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.The University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s LaVontay Fenderson (Racine, Wis.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The sophomore forward led the Rangers to wins over Northern Kentucky and Bellarmine last week.
 
In the two games, Fenderson averaged 25.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while connecting on 51.6 percent of his field goal attempts and 86.7 percent of his free throws.
 
In UW-Parkside’s 80-73 win over Northern Kentucky on Jan. 4, Fenderson posted 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds. He was 3-of-8 (.375) from behind the three-point line and 4-of-6 (.667) from the free-throw line.
 
Fenderson tallied a career-high 30 points in the Rangers’ 93-76 win over visiting Bellarmine on Jan. 6. He finished 9-of-15 (.600) from the field and converted all nine free throw attempts in the contest. Fenderson also grabbed six rebounds and dished out two assists in the win.
 
He led the Rangers in both scoring and rebounding in each game and has led the Rangers to wins in five of their last six outings. UW-Parkside (11-5, 3-3 GLVC) will return to action on Jan. 9 when Cardinal Stritch visits in non-conference action.
 
Fenderson is leading the team with 14.9 points per game this season. He is also adding 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and one steal per game on the year.
 
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Kentucky Wesleyan’s Rodney Edgerson, Quincy’s Andre Muse, Rockhurst’s Kevin Martin, Saint Joseph’s Ronald Coleman, SIU Edwardsville’s Mike Hardiek and Southern Indiana’s Kenny Page.
