University of Southern Indiana’s Jackie Henderson (Schererville, IN.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. Henderson, a junior helped lead the No.13 Screaming Eagles to a second-place finish out of six teams at the Appalachian State Mountaineer Open this past Friday.
Henderson placed fifth overall on the 5K course and finished with a time of 18:40. She was less than a minute off the winning pace set by Ohio State’s Ellen Birmingham. The Eagles had four runners place in the top 14 and five in the top 20.
Henderson’s efforts helped the Eagles post a team score of 57 points, finishing 18 points ahead of third place Alabama Birmingham, and behind Ohio State who won the 5K event.
Southern Indiana will return to action on October 2 at the Greater Louisville Classic.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included UIndy’s Sutton Knapp, Bellarmine’s Meghan Shagena, Drury’s Rebecca Senn and Lewis’s Kathryn Hague.
