University of Wisconsin-Parkside junior forward Shannon Becker (DePere, Wis./DePere) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. Becker paced the Rangers in wins against 5th-ranked Northern Kentucky and Bellarmine over the weekend.
Becker opened her weekend by notching the game-winning goal in overtime against Northern Kentucky on Friday. In UW-Parkside’s 2-1 win, Becker scored an unassisted goal in the ninth minute of the first overtime to deliver the win.
She returned on Sunday to post both goals in the Rangers’ 2-1 win over Bellarmine. She scored the first goal of the match in just the third minute of the contest on an assist from Brynn Darga. Becker tallied the game-winner in the 47th minute and was assisted on the score by Crystal Chalery.
On the week, Becker scored three goals for six points and finished the week with 14 shots and eight shots on goal.
She currently leads the GLVC in points (26), goals scored (11) and game-winning goals (4). Becker is also third in the conference in assists (4). She has scored at least one goal in each of the Rangers’ last seven matches.
UW-Parkside (7-1) moved to 7-0 in the GLVC with the victories and will face Concordia University, Saint Joseph’s and Indianapolis this week.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Jessie Sanderson, Illinois-Springfield’s Erin Egolf, Lewis’ Jessica Summers-Hernandez, Quincy’s Becky Fleming, Rockhurst’s Morgan Dahm and UIndy’s Kaitlyn Braunig.
