INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Lewis University’s Darcee Schmidt (Machesney Park, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The senior forward posted 30-plus points in each of two wins over nationally-ranked opponents last week. It is the second consecutive and third-time this season Schmidt has earned GLVC Player of the Week recognition.
In Lewis’ 76-57 win over No. 21 Bellarmine on Jan. 4, Schmidt netted a game-high 33 points on 12-of-18 (.667) shooting. She was 5-of-8 (.625) from behind the three-point arc and converted all four free throws. In addition, Schmidt added three rebounds and three assists.
She returned in Lewis’ 75-64 win over No. 18 Northern Kentucky on Jan. 6 to post a game-high 32 points. Schmidt was 13-of-22 (.591) from the field and nailed 4-of-6 (.667) three-point field goals. She also added eight rebounds, an assist and steal in the win.
Schmidt has scored 30 or more points in three straight wins, all against ranked opponents, and has posted 30-plus points four times this season. For the week, Schmidt averaged 32.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and two assists per game.
On the year, Schmidt is averaging a conference-best 22.6 points per game. She is adding 7.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Lewis (12-2, 5-1 GLVC) is currently riding a season-best six-game winning streak and has posted victories in nine of the last ten. The Flyers will return to action at UW-Parkside on Jan. 13.
