Lewis University senior forward Armin Vrebac (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. Vrebac earns the award for the second consecutive week following a four-goal effort in conference play.
In Lewis’ 3-2 win over at Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday night, Vrebac posted the first hat trick by a Flyers’ player in over two years. He tallied his first goal unassisted in the 41st minute to knot the score at 1-1.
After the Flyers again fell behind to UW-Parkside, Vrebac answered with a goal in the 54th minute on an assist from Jose Ibarra. Vrebac tallied the game-winning goal in the 80th minute on an assist from Cristhian Ramierz.
The Flyers extended their winning streak to eight matches with a 6-0 win against Saint Joseph’s on Sunday. Vrebac was one of five Lewis players to tally a goal in the win, scoring in the 26th minute on assists from Robert McGowan and Mardoche Beya.
On the week, Vrebac posted eight points with the four goals. He now has scored seven of his team-best eight goals this season in the past five matches.
Lewis (9-3) moved to 9-2 in the GLVC with the victories. The Flyers will next face Illinois-Springfield and Truman State this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Micah Whorton, Missouri S&T’s Sam Shaffer, Northern Kentucky’s Steven Beattie, UIndy’s Max Marsh and UW-Parkside’s Collin Monahan.
