Northern Kentucky junior midfielder Amanda Mason (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. Mason was instrumental in both Norse victories in league play last week.
In Friday’s convincing 5-1 decision over visiting Missouri S&T, Mason posted a hat trick by converting three of NKU’s four second-half goals. She scored the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute on an assist from Danielle Hogue. Mason added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute on an assist from Kelly Sullivan and then further iced the contest in the 66th minute off a Laura Painter corner kick.
She also added an assist in the contest, setting up Hogue’s goal just 3:12 in to give the Norse an early 1-0 advantage.
NKU knocked off visiting Drury on Sunday, 2-0, with Mason again providing offense in the second half of the contest. She posted an insurance goal for the Norse in the 57th minute off a Megan Frye corner.
On the week, Mason finished with nine points on four goals and an assist. She finished with 11 shots, including six shots on goal, and one game-winning goal.
Mason ranks second in points (32), goals (14) and shots (62) in the GLVC this season.
The 20th-ranked Norse (12-1-1) are 11-1-0 in the GLVC on the year and will close the conference schedule with road matches at Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Lewis’ Jessica Summers-Hernandez, Rockhurst’s Haley Long, Southern Indiana’s Susan Ellsperman, UIndy’s Dana Rosswurm and UW-Parkside’s Megan Owens.
